A Grown Man Still Cries

I was knee high to a puddle duck in 1953
Counting my way to 10 and learning my A, B, C's
They'd whack me on the knuckles if I didn't get it right
And I'd run home to mama with tears in my eyes

As I grew older and wiser with my years
I became a man with little use for tears
Until that day that my daddy died
Tears welled up inside of me there was nowhere they could hide

A grown man still cries
He won't admit it but you can see it in their eyes
He'll always try to hide
But when something breaks his heart so deep inside
A grown man still cries

Now I watch my son, he's approaching middle age
Still at the beginning of being trapped inside life's cage
When a sudden heart attack took his mother's life
Everything within him was there on the outside

Playing horsey ride with my grandson on my knee
I look back upon my life and all the memories
I wish this world was a better place for this little boy to be
Cause I know when he's older, he'll be
