SENSE OF SPIRIT

There's a tiny voice
deep inside each one of us
We don't listen that well
Hide it away, tuck it back in the shadows
Along with the stories it would tell

That's the sense of spirit
That's what makes us whole
That's what keeps us moving
toward the final goal
That's the sense of spirit
Too easy to ignore
And if you have it deep inside
you don't need much more

Drawing from experience
the taste of right and wrong
We walk the path we chose
A different one for each of us
might be short or long
We're not the only one who knows

That's the sense of spirit
an inner guiding light
Leading us out of our shell
to begin our flight
That wondrous sense of spirit
we cannot live without
Someone must have told you
that's what life's about

Danger lurks, temptations flare
You can see it everywhere
the sense of spirit is denied
But somewhere in this common land
common ground for common man
The sense of spirit is alive
