DREAMS OF CHILDHOOD

Lately I've been thinking of my childhood
and all the dreams that somehow slipped away
Wondering if I had missed my calling
I can't tell from where I stand today

But when I gaze upon the open water
and watch the river tumble to the sea
you know it stirs inside my soul
a picture of the person I could be

Was it circumstance that had me cornered
or was it that my self got in the way
examined every choice that seemed too matter
did I ignore my inner voice that day

Reflections of the sunlight on the water
Remind me of the mystic harmony
Reminds me that the time isn't just illusion
making memory

And when I stop and think of all the fortune
I've been blessed with in this life of mine
I realize the moments I spent dreaming
were never wasted time

Now that I have gained a new perspective
I will try much harder than before
To listen to the tiny voice inside me
Keeping in my heart an open door

And when I see the faces that surround me
of family and friends I've loved so long
I know they will provide
the strength I need inside to carry on
