FARM
CITY DAY
No reading or writing or arithmetic they say
A school without walls the theme of the day
A field trip for learning in a brand new way
We're all so excited for Farm City Day
I sure did learn
a lot today and it wasn't from a book.
My teacher took me to a farm, where I did more than take a look.
Do you know the eggs we eat, do not come from in the store?
And the milk we drink at mealtimes is not just simply poured.
I saw fresh eggs up in a nest some were white and some were brown.
I even learned to milk a cow, by grabbing hold and pulling down.
I met an old tom turkey he had whiskers on his chest.
And a brightly colored peacock, more beautiful than the rest.
Todays a day that
I would never trade
The beauty and the wonder of a world nature made
As good as any holiday parade
I always will remember what I learned
on Farm City Day
There was a pig with curly tail I saw her root the ground.
She oinked and even squealed at me I laughed at such a sound.
A mother goose sat guarding her eggs so safe and warm.
I stood beside her watching she knew I meant no harm.
I even got to ride a horse just like the cowboys do.
From high upon that saddle the world was all brand new.
I saw two buffaloes roaming like they did so long ago.
I learned a lot about them such things I didn't know.
And oh, the big old tractor that helps the farmer out.
When I climbed up in the driver's seat I just had to give a shout.
And then I met a little lamb who lives there on the farm.
And learned about her soft, white wool that's used to keep me warm.
I learned about the crops that grow in planted rows so neat.
And how the harvest time will bring the food that I will eat.
Oh, I learned so much today about the farmer and his land.
I listened and looked and touched and felt and now I understand.
