ADIEU

I'd like to take a moment now
and thank you for this gathering today
17 years of employment bliss is ending
and I must be on my way

You know I'm going to miss your smiling faces
in the morning when the birds start to sing
and I won't need my snooze button anymore
cause my alarm won't ring - my alarm won't ring

I might take a morning walk
and watch the sunlight sparkling on the sea
while the pelicans go flying by
and the whales come up for air in front of me

I know this is a far cry
from logging in and hearing voices on my phone
but a couple hours away from all of this
I found a place to call my home - a place I can call home

I tried to give my best while I've been here
I apologize for any mess I've left
Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
and leave behind the rest - leave behind the rest

I've had some great times here and I've learned a thing or two
about people, computers and the government
But the list is far too long of the things that I won't miss
and I leave those here for you to carry on

I wish you all the best in the days that lie ahead
and here's a thought to ease some of your fears
You can call most anytime and I'll tell you what I know
If I can still remember, after 17 years

So now I say so long, farewell - Auf Wiedersehen, adieu
to you and you and you
