IN TRANSIT

Lost along the highway
hidden in the fog
the only sound to reach my ears
was the barking of a dog
stopping just to read the signs
in hopes of finding home
my mind creates new images
in transit all alone

Moving on the path must lie ahead
moving on in transit it is said
calling out to all that lies beyond
in transit but never really gone

The sun cuts through a cloud bank
my vision starts to clear
climbing in behind the wheel
there's no one else to steer
the engine fires, the wheels turn
the hopes they linger on
I seem to live in transit
but I've never, I've never really gone

The house is clean the lawn is mowed
but my mind is far away
taking care of some petty business
while in transit for the day
the strings of my guitar will tell
every tale I know
my cards are on the table
and I'm in transit for the show
