Michael Frazier building a handmade guitar

Day 21 4.5 hours - I started the day working at home for a few minutes cutting and shaping a piece of myrtlewood for the heel block overlay. I will glue it on later and then sand it to fit and to thin it out.

Once at Tom's I unclamped the box, now with soundboard securely glued and dried, and Tom routed off all excess soundboard wood so it was flush with the sides. After drawing the profile on the back and marking the back braces I cut off them off so they would extend to the sides of the guitar body. You can see the new outer profile with braces cut on the inside of the back of the guitar.

Next I notched the kerfing for the braces to fit inside and up next to the sides themselves for strength of the overall guitar body. You can see the notches in the kerfing and also the lack of any soudnboard extending beyond the sides.

Next I coated the edge of the sides and kerfing and the neck and tail blocks with glue, positioned the back and clamped for drying.
